नवग्रह शांति पूजा
Grah Shanti Puja
Pacifying the nine planets
Nakshatra Shanti Puja
For birth under an inauspicious nakshatra
A child born in Mool, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Magha or Revati-gandanta, or in a gandmool period, requires Nakshatra Shanti within the first months. The ritual protects the child and the parents from the affliction of that birth star.
Understanding the ritual
Certain nakshatras carry a dosh at the moment of birth — Mool, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Magha and the gandanta junctions between signs. The shastras prescribe a shanti within the first month of life, but it may be performed at any age afterwards.
The puja worships the presiding deity of the birth nakshatra along with its ruling planet, and includes abhishek of the child or adult with waters gathered under the correct pada.
Parents usually come for it soon after birth on a family astrologer's advice. Adults come when a persistent difficulty is traced back to a gandanta or Mool birth that was never pacified.
The vidhi
The presiding deity of the birth star is invoked with its own mantra.
The child is bathed with mantra-charged water from the kalash.
Havan is completed and the child is blessed with prasad and raksha sutra.

Devotee experiences
Guru Ji read our kundali for almost an hour before saying anything about the puja. Four months after the Nivaran, my transfer that had been stuck since 2023 finally came through. He never rushed us once.
Shradh had not been done in our family for eleven years. The Tripindi was explained step by step, in Marathi for my mother-in-law. The final amount was exactly what was quoted on the phone.
My father was in ICU and I could not travel. The sava-lakh jaap was done in his name and I joined on video for the purnahuti. He was discharged nine days later. The recording and prasad reached me by post.
