What is Vastu Shanti Puja?
Vastu Shanti purifies a home, shop, office or plot before it is occupied, and settles the vastu purusha and the guardians of the eight directions. It is the ritual traditionally performed on the day a family first enters a new house.
Where a defect already exists — a wrongly placed kitchen, a cut corner, a staircase in the brahmasthan — the puja is used as a remedial measure. Demolition is rarely necessary; the shanti, along with simple corrections, is what the shastras prescribe.
People ask for it when a new property will not sell or rent, when a family falls ill soon after moving, when sleep is disturbed in a particular room, or simply to begin life in a new place on the right note.
